Make Sure You do This if You Are a Light Sleeper

There are lots of benefits that come with sleep, and the lack of it can make a person gloomy and irritable. Some people are able to sleep like rocks while others are light sleepers. If you find it difficult to sleep, there are a few simple things that you can do to improve your sleep patterns. They are:

Quit drinking caffeinated drinks after noon
Caffeine has the ability to delay your body clock and keep you up for long. Hence, if you have been enjoying caffeine beverages late in the afternoon or the evening you might want to stop. Rather, drink hot chocolate milk if you must take a beverage since it enhances good sleep.

Avoid fluids before bedtime
When you take fluids before bed, you are likely to get up a lot to use the bathroom. This easily interrupts sleep and makes it difficult to get it back, particularly if you feel cold.

Not taking sugary items before going to bed
If you take sugar, you usually get an energy boost and can stay active at night. It keeps you up for quite some time and before you know it, it’s already late into the night and you can’t sleep enough. Stay away from sugary desserts, especially chocolate because some of it contains caffeine.

Cut out all noise
If there is anything that distracts sleep the most, it is noise since a person is not able to concentrate on calming their body to sleep. Switch off all your electronics, lock your doors and window to eliminate noise from outside, and use noise cancelling headphones if there is need. They can be used by anyone who needs to listen to relaxing music to sleep.

Blocking out light
Light can be very distracting as well, particularly if your room is close to a street where cars pass or street lights. If this is the case, invest in blackout curtains or blinds or wear eye masks. Absolute darkness impressively increases your chances of finding sleep.

Make your room warm
Ensure that your room is neither hot nor cold. When you feel too hot, you will toss and turn in discomfort and will not sleep well. Freezing temperatures make your feet cold and it becomes challenging to find sleep. Sleep in warm clothing during cold seasons and keep your room cool during hot seasons.

Not using their electronics while in bed
Whenever you feel ready to sleep, keep your hands off your mobile phone, laptop, tablet, etc They do not easily allow you to sleep because of their light and the fact that you will feel the need to read or watch something or chat with people. This can keep you up for long.

Breathe deeply
Once you settle in bed, relax your mind and breathe in and out deeply. Do not focus on anything else other than your breaths and count from fifteen backward. Many people do not make it to the last one.
